The Chocolate Works Update
THE CHOCOLATE WORKS, YORK
Following the public meeting to discuss the planning application for the redevelopment of the former Terry’s Factory held at York Racecourse on Wednesday 2nd July 2008 it was reported that the developer was not present and that this hindered the discussions. We are pleased to be able to correct this false statement and confirm that 3 representatives from the Developers were present and they answered all the questions put to them.
Engaging with the public throughout the development process has always been promoted by the Developers, GHT Developments LLP, as recorded in their statement of community engagement lodged as part of the suite of documents to accompany their planning application. Supporting this further meeting, arranged by the Micklegate Ward Councillors, was a welcome opportunity to reinforce the Developers commitments to encourage people out of their cars and to embrace alternative modes of transport that are more environmentally friendly.
Peter Callaghan, Development Director said “It was a pleasure to see so many people give up their time to attend the meeting and learn first hand about the proposals and provide their comments. We are very grateful for the positive support offered by so many attendees and for the feedback related to the traffic proposals. We are very mindful of the need to minimise the impact on Bishopthorpe and this has been at the forefront of our proposals since we commenced. The largest traffic generator is the employment space and we have deliberately placed this with access off Campleshon Road rather than Bishopthorpe Road, which coupled with our proposals to ease traffic congestion along the Tadcaster Road corridor through to Mount Vale, will provide the most efficient route for traffic to approach the development.”
All the documents lodged with the Council relating to the planning application were available for inspection and these show that the Developer proposes to address traffic concerns as the plan shown.
